These vaulted rooms, the main reason why Baron Otard bought the Château, are cut into the rock and old walls ringing the town. Thanks to the thickness of the walls (over six feet) and to the humidity from the proximity to the Charente river, these cellars offer the ideal conditions for the ageing of cognac.
Not far from here, discreetly tucked away between two stories, there is the "Paradise". It used to be the Château’s prison and owes its modern name to the fact that it is where the oldest eaux-de-vie of the Otard firm are kept (1820, 1878, 1902, 1906). |
