I have noticed that the bottles of Otard cognac all have a specific shape that is not to be found with your competitors. What is the origin of this particular shape?
This specific shape was created for
Otard cognac in 1968. When you swirl cognac in a glass to enable a better
release of its aromas, it leaves a very thin film on the sides of the glass from
which a few droplets slowly run down like tears. That explains the saying that
the cognac "is crying". Those tears formed the inspiration for the shape of the
Otard bottles, originally used for the "Prince de Cognac " quality. Given its
success, the shape was subsequently extended to the majority of the Otard range
in 1986, thus creating a strong identity for the brand.
Otard is
probably today the only brand to use the same shape of bottle right across its
product range. Its pure, elegant lines and its simplicity are synonymous with
our constant quest for sobriety, elegance and modernism.

We have searched through our archives and the oldest document we were able to
find mentioning bottles is a shipment record dated October 13, 1835 indicating
the transport of " 6 cases of 72 bottles each and 6 cases of 36 bottles each "
on board the " Sarah of Bristol " sailing for Bristol in England. We have not
completed our search and we intend to go further back in time to discover more
evidence.
